The three day festival will begin on Friday 26th June and BBC Radio 6Music will take a “dawn to dusk/dusk to dawn” approach, which broadcasts online, on digital TV and on digital radio.
The BBC always give great airtime to the festival across BBC TV, radio and online. But this is the first year it will be offering non-stop, round-the-clock coverage on one service, in a move aimed at trying to boost the profile of digital audio broadcasting – DAB.
This year’s headliners include Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Blur. Below are some of the other amazing bands and artists that are playing at Glasonbury:
- Mumford & Sons
- The Rolling Stones
- The Vaccines
- Professor Green
- Rita Ora
- Jake Bugg
- Two Door Cinema Club
- Ben Howard
- and many, many more…
This initiative follows the government’s call for the radio industry to improve the quality and range of DAB Digital Radio services offered to consumers.
“The BBC supports the government’s recognition of the importance of new and innovative content in strengthening the consumer proposition of digital radio,” the BBC said in its submission to communications minister Stephen Carter’s Digital Britain report.
“We shall continue to explore ways of further extending our provision of such content. For example, we plan to offer non-stop coverage of this year’s Glastonbury festival on the BBC’s digital only 6Music station.”
